A new study reveals who believes “oral sex is not sex” and why

Dr. Kylie P. Dotson-Blake and her colleagues found that 62 percent of 781 undergraduates at a large southeastern university agreed that “oral sex is not sex”.  The younger the student (freshman and sophomore) and the more religious the student, the more likely the person was to agree that one can have oral sex and remain a virgin.  Some of the reasons individuals engage in oral sex is that it is thought to be safer than sexual intercourse in terms of being less likely to get a sexually transmitted infection, persons feel less guilty from oral sex than intercourse, and oral sex implies/requires less commitment.  Other researchers such as Vazonyi and Jenkins have noted that individuals have oral sex rather than sexual intercourse to avoid getting pregnant, to keep their partner interested and to avoid a bad reputation.  For more information about sexual aspects of a relationship, see the sexual intimacy room .  For help in discussing sexual problems with a partner, consider SKYPE therapy.
