What percent of college women in one study expressed a preference for a “traditional” husband?  Read on…

Dr. Deborah Abowitz  and colleagues surveyed  692 undergraduate women at a large southeastern university.  She found that 30.9% reported that they wanted to marry a traditional husband (one who sees his role as provider and who is supportive of his wife staying at home to rear the children) in contrast to 69.1% who reported preferring  a “modern” husband (one who expected his wife to earn an income).  The remaining women in the sample had no preference.  There were four statistically significant differences between women who wanted traditional versus those women who wanted “modern” husbands.  Characteristics of women seeking traditional husbands included those who valued a happy marriage over financial security or career, those who believed that children benefit from being reared in a traditional family (e.g. stay at home mother) and those who were against cohabitation.  See RightMate at Heartchoice.com for more information about seeking a soulmate who has the same values and view of marriage.
