Before having sex with a new partner, consider these issues: 1. You. What is your motivation for intercourse- intimacy, relief, revenge, intimidation, pleasure, procreation, waht? How will you feel after intercouse...happy, satisfied, guilty, regretful? 2. Your Partner. What is your partner's motivation and how do these motivations
mexh. Because a basic moral principle is to do no harm to others, consider
the effect of intercourse on your partner. If you suspect that your partner
will regret having intercourse, you might reconsider whether intercourse would
be appropriate with this person. 3. Relationship Consequences. Will intercourse bring you closer together as a couple or distant you from each other? 4. Contraception.
Who is taking
responsibility for avoiding pregnancy? If neither partner does, prenancy
is not an unusual outome. In a study of almost 73,000 pregnancies, 45% were
unintended. 5. HIV and Other STDs. Engaging in
casual sex has potentially fatal consequences. In one study only 37
percent of men with HIV told a casual partner of their positive HIV
status. . 6. Alcohol and Other Drugs. An unintended pregnancy is much more likely among partners consuming alcohol.
